Left Hand technique
Left hand movement from D. Aguado 1843 New Guitar Method page 8 Smoothness of the left arm and FREE PLAY in the fingers of the left hand ,which become accustomed to be PARALLEL TO THE NECK IN ITS MOVMENTS FROM THE BODY TO THE NUT.
The one thing that all the masters agree on is that the left hand knuckle should remain parallel to the neck. This is a rule that should be incorporated into the fundamental technique of all classical guitarists. The left hand thumb should follow the second finger when moving This gets rid of stupid shift exercises and then the Left thumb moves slightly to the 1 finger to bar. Here is a SIMPLE RULE that Fernando Sor writes clearly.
Your hand should Always be in a position that you can put down a bar. If you do this you will be able to play the difficult works From Villa Lobos Etudes to Concierto de Aranjuez it will all be the same movement for the left hand and that is the trick!!!!!!!. THE REASON PLAYERS GET INTO TROUBLE IS THEY GO AGAINST THE GOLDEN RULES AND COME AWAY ALL THE POORER. WHAT EVER YOU DO, DO IT THE SAME WAY AND YOU WILL GET BETTER.EVEN WRONG TECHNIQUE DONE CONSISTANTLY WILL WORK BETTER THAN A DIFFERENT WAY EVERY TIME APROACH!!! This is the reason You and I will see many players doing it all wrong but at least they can play and get better. They make it harder than they need to and they slam into walls later.
